Terms of Service
Last updated: 9 August 2026
1. Acceptance
By creating an account or using Get Waste Away ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
2. What we are
Get Waste Away is a marketplace connecting homeowners who need waste collected ("Homeowners") with Environment Agency-licensed waste carriers ("Handlers"). We are not a waste carrier ourselves, and we are not a party to the collection contract between a Homeowner and a Handler — we provide the platform that connects you and processes payment.
3. Eligibility
You must be 18 or over and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. Handlers must hold a valid Environment Agency Waste Carrier, Broker & Dealer licence appropriate to the waste they intend to collect.
4. Posting a job (Homeowners)
Posting a job is free and always will be. You're responsible for describing your waste accurately and providing photos where possible, so Handlers can quote accurately. You choose which quote to accept — we don't select a Handler for you.
5. Quoting and booking
Handlers send priced quotes based on the job details. A platform fee (3.5% of the quoted price, minimum £2) is added to the quoted price and shown to the Homeowner as a single combined total before booking. Once a Homeowner books a Handler, that job is locked to them and any other quotes on it are automatically declined.
6. Payment
Payment is collected securely through Stripe once the Handler confirms collection. We hold the payment until the Handler confirms the waste has been properly disposed of — including, where required, a waste transfer note — at which point it's released to the Handler, less our platform fee.
7. Handler subscriptions
Handlers pay a recurring subscription (monthly or annual) to receive job leads matching their service area and waste categories, after an initial free trial period. Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time; access continues until the end of the paid period.
8. Verification
We check every Handler's Waste Carrier Licence against the Environment Agency public register at signup and periodically thereafter. A lapsed or revoked licence results in suspension. This check confirms registration status only — it isn't a guarantee of a Handler's work quality, and we'd encourage using reviews and your own judgement when choosing who to book.
9. Reviews
Reviews may only be left by a Homeowner once a job is genuinely marked complete, and should reflect that Homeowner's own honest experience. We don't edit or remove reviews except where they breach these Terms or the law — for example, if they're defamatory, abusive, or fraudulent.
10. Prohibited conduct
You agree not to: circumvent the platform to avoid fees once matched through it; post false, misleading or illegal content; misrepresent your identity, licensing, or the waste you're posting; or harass or abuse other users.
11. Liability
We provide the platform "as is". We're not responsible for the acts or omissions of Homeowners or Handlers, including missed collections, property damage, or disputes between users — though we'll assist reasonably where we can. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can't legally be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
12. Account suspension & termination
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms, provides false verification information, or where a Handler's licence lapses. You can close your account at any time.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
