1. Who we are
Get Waste Away ("we", "us", "our") operates getwasteaway.co.uk, a marketplace connecting homeowners with Environment Agency-licensed waste carriers across the UK. You can reach us at support@getwasteaway.co.uk.
2. Information we collect
- Account details — name, email address, and password (stored securely hashed, never in plain text).
- Location data — your postcode, and coordinates derived from it, used to match jobs with nearby handlers.
- Job details — descriptions, waste categories and any photos you upload.
- Messages sent between homeowners and handlers within the platform.
- For handlers: company name, Waste Carrier Licence number, EA certificate and photo ID documents (for verification), and payout account details via Stripe Connect.
- Payment information — processed directly by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
- Reviews and ratings you leave or receive.
- Standard technical data — IP address, browser type, and server logs, for security and troubleshooting.
3. How we use your information
- To operate the marketplace — matching jobs to handlers, and enabling quotes, bookings, messaging and payments.
- To verify a handler's identity and licensing against the Environment Agency public register, including AI-assisted checks on uploaded documents.
- To send transactional emails — booking confirmations, payment requests, notifications. We don't send marketing emails without separate consent.
- To detect fraud, enforce our Terms of Service, and comply with legal obligations.
4. Who we share it with
- Other users, only as needed for the service to work — for example, a handler sees a homeowner's name and job postcode once booked; a homeowner sees a handler's company details, licence status and reviews.
- Service providers who process data on our behalf: Supabase (hosting, database, authentication, file storage), Stripe (payments and payouts), Resend (transactional email), and OpenAI (automated reading of uploaded verification documents).
- The Environment Agency's public Waste Carrier register, which we query using a handler's licence number to confirm registration.
We don't sell your personal data, to anyone, ever.
5. How long we keep it
We keep account and job data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal, accounting and dispute-resolution obligations. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time, subject to records we're legally required to retain.
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@getwasteaway.co.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections, access controls, and row-level security on our database. Payment details are handled entirely by Stripe and never touch our servers.
8. Children
Get Waste Away is not intended for use by anyone under 18.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email or an in-app notice.
